Join the Lancaster Roof Greening Project partners in celebrating the installation of our latest vegetative roof with a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Groffs Family Funeral Home. Over the past two years the Roof Greening Project has facilitated the development of 59,000 square feet of vegetative roof installations in the City of Lancaster. LIVE Green in partnership with Pure Energy, a Lancaster-based home performance and energy conservation services company, is offering two ‘Energy Solutions for City Homes’ workshops this spring, to assist Lancaster City residents in: (1) assessing their current energy usage; (2) implementing strategies to conserve energy; and (3) working to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
Saving Money: With electric rates on the rise simple improvements can make a big difference. Learn how your home loses energy, learn about the true cost of appliances and the incentives that are now in place to assist you in purchasing efficient models (ie: refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes washers, light fixtures, heating and cooling systems etc). Pure Energy will walk each participant through creating a personalized Action Plan to help you and your family deal with increasing energy costs.

The City of Lancaster, in partnership with LIVE Green and the Lancaster County Planning Commission is excited to announce that the City of Lancaster has received a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to develop a green infrastructure plan for the City. This plan will assist in reducing the nearly 1 billion gallons of storm water that presently overflows annually into the Conestoga River, polluting our local waterways and the Chesapeake Bay. The plan will:
~Assess the City’s impervious surfaces and open space opportunities to establish the City’s capacity to implement Green Infrastructure technologies. (Green infrastructure includes things like rain gardens, rain barrels, green roofs, porous pavement, trees, etc…)
~Prioritize Green Infrastructure improvements such that we can begin implementation of high impact, low cost projects.
Green infrastructure has many benefits for our City. Not only does it reduce storm water overflows, but also cleans the air and reduces energy consumption. For example, trees absorb lots of water, absorb carbon dioxide and provide shade to cool homes and businesses. A greener City will enhance our neighborhoods and improve home values.
It’s beginning to feel like spring. Time to get your rain barrels ready for the season ahead ! If you don’t have a barrel we have one more countywide workshop taking place on Saturday March 27 (PDF). We will also be rolling out citywide workshops during the month of May, more information on those coming soon. Along with our gray 60 gallon barrel we are excited to be partnering with Village Green in the City of Lancaster to offer a locally sourced and outfitted blue 55-gallon capacity; fixed top; re-purposed and food grade barrel through the workshops for only $30.
In partnership with local artists, five painted rain barrels will be on display through Sunday November 8. Please stop by Building Character, Carmen and Davids Creamery, Chestnut Hill Cafe, Livinglight Galleries and Mommalicious to learn more about rain barrels and their role in preventing storm water pollution. The painted barrels will be available through auction to the highest bidder with all proceeds going toward supporting LIVE Green’s rain barrel workshops. Participating artists include Heather Heilman Loercher, Libby Modern, Patricia A. Renna, Mary Schroeder, and Debbie Serdy.
The Sustainable Energy Fund , with funding from PPL Electric Utilities, are partnering to offer one-time grants for motivated small businesses located in the PPL service territory with projects that will reduce electric consumption.
The goal of the Small Business Energy Efficiency grant is to provide funding for energy efficient projects that are cost effective and with quantifiable savings.
